India is a truly remarkable destination that enchants every traveller! This fantastic country allowed me to explore its stunning wonders and UNESCO heritage sites in luxurious style. Situated in the heart of Asia, it features a vast peninsula bordered by water on three sides, providing breathtaking coastal views. To the north, you'll find the majestic Himalayas, home to the world's highest peaks. The Bay of Bengal sparkles invitingly to the southeast, while the Arabian Sea gleams to the southwest. Each region has its own story, making India a must-visit destination for adventurers and explorers alike!

For a delightful travel experience, think about visiting between October and March. The weather is typically warm, sunny, and dry during these months, providing an ideal setting to appreciate the country's breathtaking beauty. As the monsoon season concludes and the summer heat approaches, you can relish in the pleasantly mild temperatures that many travellers praise. The period from November to February is especially appealing, offering some of the warmest temperatures and the least humidity, making your trip both comfortable and pleasant. Additionally, March is a thrilling month to visit—not just for its excellent weather, but also for lively festivals like Holi, which can bring a colourful and memorable aspect to your travel adventure!

Streets of Delhi in a rickshaw

Our adventure began in the lively streets of Delhi, a bustling metropolis with a staggering 33.5 million inhabitants, making it the world's second most populous city. To truly immerse ourselves in the city's vibrant chaos, we hopped on an iconic auto-rickshaw, affectionately known as a tuk-tuk. This mode of transportation offers a thrilling way to navigate through bustling markets filled with exotic spices and flavours, dense traffic, and vibrant life on every corner.

No visit to Delhi would be complete without experiencing the grandeur of Jama Masjid, a breathtaking architectural marvel and one of the largest mosques in India, welcoming tourists from all faiths. Another unmissable gem is Humayun’s Tomb, the country’s first garden-tomb, built in 1538 by Humayun himself. Its striking red sandstone structure was groundbreaking at the time, and it has proudly held the designation of a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993.

Delhi also boasts luxurious accommodations, like the Oberoi Delhi, celebrated as the best hotel in the city. The Oberoi is home to Dhilli, one of the top restaurants in the area, overseen by Michelin-starred Chef Vineet Bhatia MBE. Here, the menu delights guests with an array of vibrant, multicultural dishes that reflect the rich culinary heritage of India’s capital.

I was genuinely captivated by Udaipur, often called the "City of Lakes" in India. Undoubtedly one of the country’s most romantic cities, it is lovingly nestled between the shimmering waters of its beautiful lakes and the ancient Aravalli Hills. Despite being one of Rajasthan’s largest cities, Udaipur maintains an enchanting small-town charm that makes every visitor feel welcomed. At the heart of the city lies the serene Lake Pichola, with the historic Old City gracefully stretching along its eastern shore. This picturesque area is built across gentle hills, where narrow, winding streets twist and turn, leading to magnificent marble palaces, lush gardens bursting with vibrant hibiscus, sparkling fountains, and elegant pavilions. It’s no wonder this captivating destination has inspired countless artists, literary enthusiasts, and romantics like myself. You can immerse yourself in the experience by staying in accommodations at a traditional Indian palace, capturing the essence and grandeur of the royal era, and truly feeling the romance in the air.

Agra, home of the mesmerizing Taj Mahal—one of the Seven Wonders of the World and a UNESCO World Heritage Site—is an absolute must-visit on your journey through India. The place is full of magic, a monument to love and respect that endures over time. This city, once the capital of the Mughal Empire for over a century, sits majestically along the banks of the Yamuna River. Agra flourished during the 16th century, and today, remnants of its glorious past still line the eastern banks of the river. Steeped in rich history and vibrant culture, Agra isn't just a historical city; it's also a thriving industrial and commercial hub and a beloved destination for travellers. The sprawling city, alive with energy, offers an intensely immersive Indian experience, filled with bustling forts, intricate tombs, and splendid mausoleums, alongside colourful chowks and lively bazaars that beckon exploration.

I'm truly excited to share that I'll save the other three cities I visited, Thiruvananthapuram, Jaipur, and Mumbai, for the second part of this fantastic journey through India! I cannot leave without expressing my gratitude to my professional partners at Indian Holiday and Selected Scapes. They have handled all the logistics, down to the most minor details. That's why I work with them; they are simply the best.

I hope you're already inspired to fall in love with this beautiful country. If you've ever dreamed of exploring India, don’t hesitate to get in touch! I would love to help you craft an unforgettable adventure you'll treasure forever.
